Wood screws are used to fasten and secure two pieces of wood together. The flat head features a conical head and flat top, and it is countersunk for a smooth, flush surface. Nibs are located underneath the head of the screw to self-countersink and sit flush in the material surface. The undercut provides a shorter head, providing the screw with a longer thread than a standard flat head screw of the same length. The phillips drive has a cross-shaped indent for use with a Phillips screwdriver. Type 17 points feature a tapered point with a chip cavity. Zinc plated steel offers good corrosion resistance in applications not exposed to excessive moisture.
