Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The round washer head has a domed head, a smaller surface bearing, and protrudes above the fastening surface. The washer-style flange attached underneath the head creates a large surface connection area. The phillips drive has a cross-shaped indent for use with a Phillips screwdriver. Black zinc-plated steel offers good corrosion resistance in applications not exposed to excessive moisture and provides anti-galling properties.
