Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The pan head features a disc with chamfered outer edge and short cylindrical sides that resembles a frying pan. Pan heads protrude above the fastening surface. The 6-lobe drive, commonly referred to as Torx, has six points of contact allowing the operator to tighten the screw without stripping the recess. Black zinc-plated steel offers good corrosion resistance in applications not exposed to excessive moisture and provides anti-galling properties.
