Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The round head has a domed head, a smaller surface bearing, and protrudes above the fastening surface. The phillips drive has a cross-shaped indent for use with a Phillips screwdriver. Zinc plated steel offers good corrosion resistance in applications not exposed to excessive moisture.
