Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The pan head features a disc with chamfered outer edge and short cylindrical sides that resembles a frying pan. The serrations provide teeth-like grooves underneath the washer that bites into the surface to resist vibration. Pan heads protrude above the fastening surface. The phillips drive has a cross-shaped indent for use with a Phillips screwdriver. Zinc plated steel offers good corrosion resistance in applications not exposed to excessive moisture.
