Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The oval undercut head is very similar to a flat head screw but has a rounded surface. The undercut provides a shorter head, providing the screw with a longer thread than a standard flat head screw of the same length. The phillips drive has a cross-shaped indent for use with a Phillips screwdriver. Zinc plated steel offers good corrosion resistance in applications not exposed to excessive moisture.
