Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The pan head features a disc with chamfered outer edge and short cylindrical sides that resembles a frying pan. Pan heads protrude above the fastening surface. The phillips drive has a cross-shaped indent for use with a Phillips screwdriver. Yellow cadmium plated steel offers greater resistance to white oxidation than zinc-plated steel. Cadmium-plated steel is typically used in environments exposed to high salt concentrations. A yellow finish is applied after the cadmium plating.
