Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The pan head features a disc with chamfered outer edge and short cylindrical sides that resembles a frying pan. Pan heads protrude above the fastening surface. The 6-lobe drive, commonly referred to as Torx, has six points of contact allowing the operator to tighten the screw without stripping the recess. Black oxide steel offers mild corrosion resistance and essentially has no risk of hydrogen embrittlement.
