Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The truss head has a curved surface, extra-wide profile, and a lower profile than most pan head screws. The extra-wide top helps prevent the screw from going through the drilled surface. The phillips drive has a cross-shaped indent for use with a Phillips screwdriver. 18-8 stainless steel, also commonly known as 304 or A2 stainless steel, has good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic.
