Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The oval undercut head is very similar to a flat head screw but has a rounded surface. The undercut provides a shorter head, providing the screw with a longer thread than a standard flat head screw of the same length. The phillips drive has a cross-shaped indent for use with a Phillips screwdriver. 18-8 stainless steel, also commonly known as 304 or A2 stainless steel, has good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic.
