Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The flat head features a conical head and flat top, and it is countersunk for a smooth, flush surface. The phillips drive has a cross-shaped indent for use with a Phillips screwdriver. Black oxide steel offers mild corrosion resistance and essentially has no risk of hydrogen embrittlement.
