Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The flat head features a conical head and flat top, and it is countersunk for a smooth, flush surface. The 6-lobe drive, commonly referred to as Torx, has six points of contact allowing the operator to tighten the screw without stripping the recess. 18-8 stainless steel, also commonly known as 304 or A2 stainless steel, has good chemical resistance and may be mildly magnetic.
