Self-drilling screws are efficient because they eliminate the need for a pilot hole, tap their own threads, and fasten materials in a single operation. The pan head features a disc with chamfered outer edge and short cylindrical sides that resembles a frying pan. The serrations provide teeth-like grooves underneath the washer that bites into the surface to resist vibration. Pan heads protrude above the fastening surface. The 6-lobe drive, commonly referred to as Torx, has six points of contact allowing the operator to tighten the screw without stripping the recess. Zinc plated steel offers good corrosion resistance in applications not exposed to excessive moisture.
