Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The flat head features a conical head and flat top, and it is countersunk for a smooth, flush surface. The 6-lobe drive, commonly referred to as Torx, has six points of contact allowing the operator to tighten the screw without stripping the recess. Zinc plated steel offers good corrosion resistance in applications not exposed to excessive moisture.
