Self-tapping screws create their own threads but require a pilot hole. The pan head features a disc with chamfered outer edge and short cylindrical sides that resembles a frying pan. Pan heads protrude above the fastening surface. The square drive has a square-shaped recess designed to be used with square driver. Black oxide steel offers mild corrosion resistance and essentially has no risk of hydrogen embrittlement.
