Self-drilling screws are efficient because they eliminate the need for a pilot hole, tap their own threads, and fasten materials in a single operation. The round washer head has a domed head, a smaller surface bearing, and protrudes above the fastening surface. The washer-style flange attached underneath the head creates a large surface connection area. The phillips drive has a cross-shaped indent for use with a Phillips screwdriver. Zinc plated steel offers good corrosion resistance in applications not exposed to excessive moisture.
